2021 Co-Motion Steelhead Co-Pilot Med

Date: Jan 17      Ad ID: CWNEL

This four year-old bike is in outstanding condition. My wife and I purchased it new in late 2021. It is a hybrid road – gravel (all-road) tandem, size Medium. The color is a premium Co-Motion paint color called “Fully Leaded” and it has Co-Motion painted Team Logos in a Veruca Violet to Angry Orange fade design. The paint fade design is also on the inside of the fork. This bike is designed to run 700c wheels with tire widths ranging from 32-45mm. Tire options range from fast tubed road tires to wide tubeless gravel tires. This bike has a similar geometry to Co- Motion’s road tandems, like the Carrera or Supremo, but is built a little more rugged with a wider and stronger fork, beefier boom tube and stronger/wider rear triangle. It rides beautifully, is rock-solid and super-stable when standing out of the saddle, and is still fairly lightweight. It weighs only 39.5 pounds, as pictured. It has been thoroughly cleaned, relubricated and serviced.

It’s been a reliable world-traveling touring bike, having visited Europe a couple of times, as well as various locales in the US, including the KATY Trail in Missouri. This bike has always been well cared for. I’ve always used clear helicopter tape to protect key areas from wear or damage, like the head tube (to prevent cable rub), down tube, back of stoker seat tube, seat and chain stays, and top tubes. I’ve removed all of the old tape and have reapplied new protective tape in just a few key areas. There only a few small flaws, including a small scratch/scuff on the outside of the right fork leg (I’ve covered it with a couple of small accent decals), a tiny paint chip on the top tube under the nose of the captain’s saddle, a tiny paint chip on the top of the boom tube at the “O” in Co-Motion, and there are some small areas where the paint has come off on the inside of the fork legs, by the thru-axle openings. It doesn’t show when the front wheel is mounted and is pretty much unavoidable due to friction from changing out wheels, mounting on car racks, etc. There are one or two carbon crank ends that were lightly scuffed but are not noticeable after treatment with a little clear nail polish. I’ve tried to illustrate all of these small flaws in the photo gallery so there are no surprises. The bike does have some signs of light use, as it’s a bike that’s been ridden and enjoyed, but no more than 1,000 miles per year. I’m selling this bike because my wife and I just had another new tandem custom built.

Also, two new, unopened FSA Mega Evo 30mm bottom brackets and two lightly-used TRP 203mm 6-bolt rotors.
  • Finally, I will include an illustrated booklet that I created, which contains detailed instructions on how to disassemble and pack the bike for airline travel, and how to unpack and reassemble it at your destination. It’s very useful.
  • Asking price is $8750.

If you go to Co-Motion and spec a new Steelhead with comparable specs, not including my upgrades, it’ll come to nearly $16,000. Add in my upgrades and you’re easily over $17,000. So, I’ve set what I think is a fair price for a really sweet bike.
