1990 Holland Scepter Custom
Date: OCT 29 Ad ID: MBRUT
1990 Holland Scepter Custom Tandem — Handbuilt by Bill Holland — Original Joe Bell Paint - A rare, handcrafted Holland Scepter tandem built around 1990 by San Diego framebuilder Bill Holland for himself and his wife. I purchased this tandem directly from Bill in 1991 and have owned it for 35 years. It features the beautiful original metallic turquoise and silver Joe Bell paintwork. Highlights:
- Custom Holland Scepter frame
- Captain: 56 cm, approximately 5’8”–6’
- Stoker: 54 cm, approximately 5’5”–5’8”
- Phil Wood hubs and rear drag brake with separate handlebar control
- Shimano Dura-Ace brakes and rear cassette
- Shimano Deore XT derailleurs
- Sugino crank components
- Cinelli front stem and handlebars
- Specialized rear handlebars
- Brooks leather captain’s saddle
- Fizik women’s stoker saddle
- New tires
The bicycle retains its original paint and components except for replacement chainrings and rear cassette. Mechanically excellent. Recently inspected, with smooth, precise shifting, fully functional brakes, and no known structural damage. Original paint is in very good condition, showing age-appropriate chips and scratches. One minor fall on wet pavement left a cosmetic scrape on the rear derailleur. My wife and I enjoyed many wonderful rides and tours on this tandem, including a memorable trip along Big Sur. It is exceptionally stable and a pleasure to ride. A beautiful example of American custom bicycle craftsmanship with an unusual ownership history.
Asking price is $2250.
The bike is located in San Diego, California. Local pickup only. No shipping. Cash, Zelle, or Venmo at pickup. Payment must be verified. Michael 858-752-4844
